HOW TO WEAR RAIN BOOTS

Since everyone seems to be obsessing about not wearing any open toe shoes now that it's rainy season and wellies seem to be the norm (God forbid you don't own a pair!!! Of course I don't own a pair, just the thought of wearing them makes my feet sweat) I thought to myself: if you're gonna wear them, wear them in style!!! Not just with whatever outfit you thought suitable that day. Many women think that because rain boots are the thing to wear they can wear them however they want. Of course you can, this is a free country, but let's admit it, you don't want to look ridiculous, or even worse, you don't want to end up looking like a fashion victim, BUSTED!!!

Many questions arise when confronted with the dilemma of how to wear rain boots  ¿What's the best way to wear them? ¿Can I wear them with shorts or just jeans? ¿Is it appropriate to wear them when it's NOT raining? ¿Can I wear them to go around running errands? ¿Do you think I look as good in them as Kate Moss does? ladies... very few people look as good as Kate Moss in anything (sorry girls but the truth is not always pretty) but that doesn't mean you can't make some experimenting of your own.

I found some useful tips on the internet and decided to share them with you:

TIP #1

Wear skinny jeans with your rain boots for best results. The more the jeans resemble leggings, the better.

It doesn't get any more classic than this. Skinny jeans, mariniére, trench coat, red scarf, brown leather bucket bag, Ray Ban's and of course an umbrella, you're gonna definitely need it, hence why you're wearing rain boots in the first place. This outfit is perfect for running errands on a rainy afternoon and still look stylish.

TIP #2

Match the wash of the jean with the boots. For very bright rain boots, medium to dark shades of denim work well. Solid and dark wellies look good with lighter and bleached denims. Avoid pairing stonewashed denim with patterned boots, it'll be sartorial overkill.

Ok, this might be perfect for a girl with a more eclectic kind of style. She could wear it during the day or even to the office if she works in a more creative, fashionable and/or casual environment. Wear the scarf only if you-re not wearing the coat, choose either or.

TIP #3

If you have killer legs and you want to wear them with shorts  a la "Kate Moss" then denim cutoffs work best. Keep it casual!!!

Ok girls, this is as casual as it gets, with a splash of color. Perfect for the weekend, if and only if you have killer legs, once again, you've been warned.

TIP #4

You can wear them to go wherever you want except for the office, unless your workplace has a very casual dress code.

TIP #5

You can also wear them anywhere there might be puddles around.

TIP #6

I'd say DON'T WEAR THEM IF IT'S NOT RAINING AND THERE AREN'T ANY PUDDLES AROUND!!! Quite frankly I think it looks ridiculous, BUT, then again, if it makes you feel like a diva then my all means knock yourself out, just know you've been warned.

HAVE FUN!!! And let me know how it goes!!!

YET ANOTHER MAXI DRESS

Even though rainy season is here to stay for a while (at least it looks like that) I have to admit I might be a bit in denial about it (ok, maybe more than just a bit) . Like my wise friend Haydeé says: Wearing open toe shoes (AKA: sandals!!!) in rainy season is like wearing suede boots in the middle of summer. I'm one of those insane people wearing sandals in the middle of a strong rainy season (if you're not Guatemalan you should know that a lot of us DON'T WALK!!!). The problem is that it's not really cold out there, it's rainy but I FEEL HOT ALL THE TIME, all I feel like is wearing very little clothes. On Saturday I decided to wear boots and I was sweating like a pig all day!!! That my friends is completely UNSTYLISH AND UNACCEPTABLE!!!

I guess that if open toe shoes are banned for rainy season then so are maxi dresses, HOWEVER on Friday I was insane enough (at least that is what the experts on fashion for rainy season would say) to buy myself yet another maxi dress, what can I say? I'm in denial plus I love maxi dresses, they are the most comfortable and feminine thing a girl can wear, I don't care I'm just gonna have to get both my feet and my hem wet, that is, if I ever get the chance to actually walk someplace.

Dear friends, wear whatever the hell you want, the most important thing is that the things that you wear make you feel good about yourself, you should adorn yourself everyday with things that you love and make you happy. If you're one of those people we all criticize (because of course we do) for wearing north pole appropriate boots in the middle of a hot indian summer, by all means if it makes you feel like a diva, wear them, you might end up looking ridiculous, but then again who cares!!! As long as you know you're being ridiculous and still don't care I guess that's OK, that's just who you are and let's admit it, you can't help yourself.  I'm probably contradicting myself because I'm an image consultant but I also want to help people dress the things they love and project their own unique personalities. That's just who I am (ok, you should always dress according to your body type, age and occasion).

Here are some images of maxi dress #101 hahaha I only wish I had so many maxi dresses.

PORTRAITS

Helloooooo my dear friends!!! I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful weekend!!! I know I have been really bad because I have officially abandoned you, but please don't go anywhere because I'm back and hopefully stronger than before. Sometimes the only thing one needs is a breath of fresh air.

This weekend was specially interesting and very educating (don't you love it when you get to learn wonderful new things!!!). I had the opportunity to enroll in a photography workshop with talented Guatemalan photographer Clara de Tezanos, co-founder of La Fototeca (Clara, better known as Mamu is the responsible for my website's incredible photographs, unfortunately Mamu closed her comercial photography business to engage herself more deeply in her artistic projects and La Fototeca). The workshop was specialized in portraits, we learned all about the different kinds and how to work with light. On our second day (Saturday that is) we had to show our skills and put theory into practice, we where assigned a partner and had to work with 7 different settings with different light, needless to say it was a lot of fun, but most of all, we got to learn a lot, meet different people and discover some of our hidden potential.

Here's some of what I got to do this weekend, I hope you like it. Just so you know, there was no studio lighting involved, it was all achieved with natural light and some reflectors, photography can be non expensive and lots of fun.

Thank you models you where all great!!!

If you wish to learn more about La Fototeca and Clara de Tezanos, you are more than welcomed to visit their website:

If you're into photography like I am, next time there's a workshop at La Fototeca try not to miss it!!! You'll learn a lot and enjoy the process (and if you're lucky you'll get to take home a sticker and a t-shirt, who doesn't like a free gift!!!)

FRIDAY LOOK

Today I decided to wear my Marimekko dress to go to the network. I paired it up with a colorful beaded necklace and a waist belt I bought at Anthropologie http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/index.jsp

I'm sorry I have abandoned you so much this week but first I got really sick and didn't feel like anything and then I got really busy. I promise to share more stuff with you next week. Right now I'm just really tired from all the week's work and hope to have a good weekend rest, at least I'm doing something different, I'm taking a photography workshop specialized in portraits so needless to say...I'm really excited!!!  I'll let you know all about it.

Take care and have a wonderful weekend!!!

GUATEMALAN TALENT

Good morning everyone!!! I hope you're all feeling great because I'm as sick as a dog!!! This is what I get for blurting out (all confident) I NEVER GET SICK!!! I guess it's life's own way of bitting you in the ass (pardon my french).

Anyhow... on Monday I attended a very unique event. I think I told you a while ago that I was invited to be a judge for a singing contest Mc Donald's holds for it's employees every year. The contest is called VOICE OF MC DONALD'S (practically their own little latin american idol) and on Monday where the finals. I have to give thank's to Mc Donald's for considering me for such a task, it was a lot of fun and gave me the chance to do something out of the ordinary. Choosing the winner was no easy task plus I must congratulate everyone for their outstanding performances and wish good luck to the winner who will be traveling to Mexico for the semi-finals.

After the contest was over and the winners where announced, famous guatemalan band MALACATES TREBOL SHOP gave us our own private concert and it was great!!! Jacobo Nitsch who's the most incredible musician (ok, maybe I am Jacobo's #1 fan) and plays the trumpet for the band was also one of my fellow judges.

Here's some images of the final concert. If you'd like to learn more about the band and listen to their music you may visit their website:

Enjoy!!!

Ok, maybe I want one of those little red portable pianos, I don't play any instruments so who knows what the hell their called, I just want it as part of my home decorating, or maaaaaybe I can get my picture taken with one them and look all rock starish, that would be awesome, I always wanted to look like a rock star, hence why I colored my hair red but I think I didn't succeeded, I don't think I'm even near looking like one, perhaps I'm missing some piercing and tattoos or a piano like this one (or a black leather jacket in fact).

Ok, that's all folks!!! It was a lot of fun!!!
Next time there's a MALACATES concert near you try not to miss it.

Until next!!!

ENGASHADA SHOES

Can you believe this weather? This morning it was incredibly hot, then all of a sudden it got cold and started to rain, now it's all foggy and rainy and cold, no wonder I got the flu, and I NEVER GET SICK!!! Rainy weather and me don't get along very well, in a way it get's me all lazy and depressed, I guess it's simply because I'm a very tropical person.

Well, just like I promised you, here are a couple of images of my Engashada shoes I bought at the farmers market. Last FM I saw them for the first time but didn't have enough money to buy them, this time I was a little bit more prepared and finally bought them. I really like them and today I got complimented on them by some very nice lady at the gym.

If you like what you see, you may contact Mandre Barquín designer and creator of the shoes, she has all sorts of different designs that you might like.

A VERY COLORFUL FARMERS MARKET PART II

Ok everyone!!! Here's part II of yesterday's very colorful Saúl É. Méndez Farmers Market. Remember it's only once a month so next time be sure not to miss it you're guaranteed to find lots of delicious and interesting things, I know I have!!! Yesterday I bought myself carrots, onions and beets (I looove beets), a delicious sauce (cebollín y loroco) from Chef Mon Coeur which by the way had the cutest stand and dining table all decorated by the chef herself Deby Fadul. I also bought the most amazing pita bread and finally my Engashada shoes, which I'll be sharing some pictures later on.

Hope to see you all next time.

Entertainment for the little ones. Cupcake decorating!!! How fun!!!

This is the lovely dining table I was telling you about. I had the privilege to talk to Deby Fadul herself and she was telling me all about her creative artistic catering service, plus she does the decorating too, I personally loved it and can't wait to have an excuse to hire her services.

More lovely decorating by Chef Mon Coeur.

Just tell me this isn't the cutest.

I think Deby gave the farmers market a vintage touch with her wonderfully decorated food stand.

More entertainment for the kids.

Fresh vegetables!!!

Look at this wonderful beets!!! In fact, today I'm having beet salad yummi.
