DRESS TO IMPRESS ON YOUR FIRST DATE
Yesterday a Style by Red reader asked me to please write a post about "What to Wear on a First Date" a very delicate topic that some women don't usually pay the necessary attention to. Like they say, you only have one chance to cause a good first impression so take advantage of it. A first date is not a get together with your girlfriends. Usually us girls dress to impress our girlfriends, and/or to let them show how stylish we are and even sometimes make them a little bit jealous lol!!! Don't act like you haven't done it!!! But it's not like that with guys, so don't go trying to impress him with your trendiest designer outfit, quite frankly he doesn't care unless he's gay and if that's the case then you're in a lot of trouble.
With this in min I went to do a little investigating of my own on the internet. I mean there's some obvious tips we all know like: don't dress too trendy, or don't dress to provocative if you want to be taken serious but I thought maybe I could find a little something more we don't already know. Then I thought to myself: sometimes what's obvious for you is not obvious for others.
To help you dress to impress on your first date I elaborated a list of useful tips I found on the internet that I think will help you achieve such an important task. I also created a couple of outfit ideas for you that I hope you like and find inspiring.
- Obviously the first thing you need to know is where the hell is he taking you or what kind of date it is. It's not the same to dress for a coffee date which is a more casual date than to dress for a dinner date. So make sure what kind of date you're getting into.
- Don't overdress. Dress for the occasion.
- Don't wear anything too trendy.
- Don't wear something that you don't feel comfortable in, in other words don't dress like something other than yourself.
- Go easy on the hair and makeup.
- Don't wear anything too weird it's man repelling.
- Do wear something that has a story. An item with a history can be a good icebreaker.
- Go easy on the jewelry. Too much jewelry will make you look cheap.
- Avoid brightly colores nail polishes and lip sticks.
- Go easy with the perfume.
- Don't wait until last minute to shop for an outfit.
- Dresses are always a feminine option but it all depends on the type of date.
- Be sexy, flirty and fun without being too provocative. Leave something for the imagination.
- Honestly God knows where your first date will take soooo...Do bear in mind that you might be wearing your outfit home, possibly the next morning. Avoid anything that may looks unduly conspicuous on the number 43 bust at 8am. You might also want to practice saying: "I just decided to dress up a bit lol!"

BLOG DISCOVERY: CLOSET VISIT WITH JEANA SOHN
This morning while I was navigating the web in search for inspiration I came upon a really cool blog called Closet Visit . Closet Visit was created by artist Jeana Sohn and it's about visiting the closets of creative stylish women. To my point of view Closet Visit would be the indie version of The Coveteur being this second one a lot more comercial. I actually like the indie version a lot more perhaps, I love the purity and clarity of it's images and in a way seems a lot more intimate. Turns out like I said at the beginning that Jeana is not only a fashion blogger she's also a photographer and quite an amazing artist. I visited her photography website and fell in love with her work. It's so amazing how the world is filled with creative talented people, it gives us something to admire and talk about.
Here's some of Jeana's photographic work (my favorite). Don't forget to visit her blog Closet Visit in it I'm sure you'll find a lot of inspiration. Hope you like it as much as I did!!!

FARMERS MARKET SUNDAY
Yesterday took place the Saúl E. Méndez farmers market. Like I said in my previews post, I love the idea of the farmers market because it gives people in Guatemala something different to do on a regular Sunday morning. I asked my friend Deby to come with me and help me document some of my favorite things at the FM. The two things that caught my attention where the Wunderkeks cupcake stand that was absolutely lovely and which belongs to the fabulous Hans Christian Schrei and also Camille's bread stand. Camille is one of Guatemala's top restaurants, chef and owner Jorge Lamport and his wife Carolina (who ar ethe cutest couple by the way) always have the most creative and at the same time simple way to display their products. Carolina herself is quite an amazing artist.
Enjoy the pictures and if you missed my farmers market outfit post click here:
If you liked what you just saw and you wish to contact either Wunderkeks or Camille, visit their facebooks pages where you'll find all their useful information:

SATURDAY BBQ
On Saturday my friends and I organized a little BBQ at my place. I live on a 17th floor apartment with an amazing view, a small kitchen and a very old school grill, it used to be my grandmother's actually. Originally we thought of having it at someone else's place with a garden but no one had their place available so I said: All I have to offer you is an old grill and a balcony but...mi casa es su casa, and so we did it.
Leading the orchestra was my dear friend and chef Debora Fadul of Chef de Mon Coeur. You remember I interviewed Deby last week don't ya? Well... she told us all what to buy and we all collaborated a little bit doing something. The guys where in charge of the grill and we took care of the rest. Deby made for us the most delicious burgers I've had in my whole entire life, I'm not kidding, even my friend Reneé who doesn't eat burgers was chowing down that thing like there's no tomorrow. We made two recipes, the ingredients: butter, cream cheese, goat cheese, cheddar cheese, swiss cheese, sun dried tomatoes, portobello mushrooms, arugula, spinach, seasoned tomatoes, caramelized onions, carrot chips... you like? If you want the recipes you're gonna have to visit Deby's blog to get them www.chefdemoncoeur.com DELICIOUS!!!
One more thing, Deby not only is the greatest chef she's also a highly creative person so she has the most unique ways of serving her food. Deby and I strongly believe that things don't have to look perfect to be perfect. Here's some images of our little Saturday get together. Hope you like them. Needless to say we had a blast!!!
On my next post: my favorite things at the farmers market. Stay tuned.

SUNDAY FARMERS MARKET OUTFIT
Once a month Saúl E. Méndez organizes a farmers market at Paseo Cayalá. It used to be at Saúl E. Méndez headquarters but little by little it has been evolving into something a little bit bigger. I still believe that the idea of the farmers market is something great, it gives people something different to do once a month and it's an opportunity for small, local artisans and producers to show their products. Even though Paseo Cayalá is a very beautiful place and while I do understand that if you want to make thing's bigger sometimes you just got to move, nothing compares to the first FM held at the Saúl headquartes, they used to be so much cozier and the ambiance in general was so much cooler. I think a lot of people would agree with me on that. Still we went and enjoyed a very pleasant sunny Sunday morning. On my next post I will show you some of my favorite things at the farmers market, right now it's all about my outfit.
As we all know, every girl needs a dress that makes her feel fresh and comfortable, this is one of them for me. I've had it for years and I bought it at a very low profile store in Antigua Guatemala back in 2006 I think. The weather today in Guatemala was soooo nice that I decided to wear it. To personalize my outfit I went for my red lipstick (of course), raffia hat from Anthropologie and necklace also from Anthropologie. The hat I bought it when I went to Miami a couple of months ago and the necklace is reeeeeeaaaaally old too, I seldom ever wear it but I thought today with this dress was the perfect opportunity.

@CAROLINA HERRERA
Today I went to CH store in Guatemala to see what new designs had arrived. I think last time I was there was December, I bought my mother a beautiful and elegant CH handbag for christmas that she almost had a heart attack when she saw it. Today I saw so many new beautiful styles that I decided to take pictures of some of the things that most got my attention. I was so excited about the images that I rushed back home to work on this post. I personally don't own a CH handbag yet but I would most definitely consider buying myself one, in fact I've been thinking about it for quite a while now, perhaps that's why I keep on going back to the store. I'm not a handbag girl, I don't buy handbags all the time, when I buy one I like to use it a lot and I usually go for more classic designers and styles like say... Prada (my favorite), Chloé and Celine and a little bit of Marni here and there (who doesn't love Marni). I don't like trendy bags fully ornamented with huge logos, in fact the less logos the better for me. The two only logos I can tolerate maybe are Chanel and CH (Carolina Herrera).
Take a look at all the wonderful things I saw today. What I like the most about going into a CH store is that you actually feel like you're stepping inside her home, filled with portraits of Carolina Herrera herself when she was younger and books she probably has sitting in her own library or on top of her coffee table. It's actually quite a fantastic experience.
