DIY: SIMPLE ELEGANT WALL DECOR

It is true when they say that creativity works at its best during hard times. Sometimes when we feel comfortable about our current situation we don't seem to push our creativity to the limit. Today I have a brief decor story to tell you. I hope it inspires you to get creative yourself.

A few years ago (like perhaps 6 years ago) I bought myself "A" 8 piece set of Villeroy & Boch china hoping to one day complete the whole set. Time passed by and I never bought the complete set. When my mother and I moved to this apartment just right after my father passed away I was cleaning my closet and I found my beautiful set of Villeroy & Boch china set still wrapped up like a birthday gift. Obviously the amount of storage room you have inside an apartment is considerably more limited than the one you have in a big house. I didn't want to storage it away and completely forget that it even existed, which is exactly what happens with things that you hide away inside boxes. I din't want it to go to waste, I wanted to do something useful and creative with it. At that time I didn't have a lot of money to spend on new room decor so I thought why not hang it on my wall and make my room look elegant and beautiful. So that's exactly what I did.

Do you have anything interesting boxed away in some God forsaken storage room that you could use to create simple elegant wall decor? You might just want to go check inside those boxes.

There's a lot of history in there let me tell ya!

STYLISH LIVING: KIKA'S

Hello everyone!!! First and foremost I have to apologize for abandoning you this past few days. So it happens that last week was specially busy, by the time Friday came I was about to go crazy. Thankfully on Saturday I called my dear friend Kika and she invited me to tag along with her family to the beach. I had a very relaxed Saturday, we played domino (Kika and her family are Cubans so I was working on acquiring my Cuban citizenship), swam in the pool, had a fantastic lunch and then at night we watched a funny movie, it was simply put a delightful weekend with some of my favorite people.

My friend Kika is one of the most creative people I know, mainly because she's very sensitive to things happening around her, and of course she's amazingly talented. She's an outstanding artist, the best graphic designer, she even writes poetry once in a while whenever she feels inspired and just recently she's found a new passion of her own, decorating, to which she's really good at because she has impeccable taste and a mind of her own.

Yesterday when we got back from the beach we got to hang out around her apartment for a while and needless to say I decided to take advantage of that and took some pictures to share with you, I've been meaning to do it for a while now and yesterday was my one opportunity to do it, since we're both very busy women and sometimes we don't get to see each other that much.

In the end Kika herself took some pictures of me and I took some pictures of her lovely vivacious little girl Kiki. I hope you like them but most of all I hope you feel inspired.

Well guys, hope you loved them and found some inspiration.  Stay tuned for our next Stylish Living episode, I already have someone in mind, she's a client of mine, I went to her house just recently and fell in love with it, I'm sure you'll fall in live with it too.

Take care and have a wonderful stylish day!!!

DESIGN INSPIRATION: MARMALADE INTERIORS

Last week I was browsing the web and I found some amazing images of Jill Sorensen's home. Jill is a former model actress turned interior designer and entrepreneur from North Carolina. Jill thinks that a colorful home is a happy home and I have to agree with her, I just simply love color and can't live without it. When I saw the pictures of Jill's home I thought to myself: Wow, this is how my dream home would look like, fun, colorful, creative and cozy, a place where everyone would feel comfortable and welcomed.

Jill's unique style showcases bold color combinations, and a fearless mix of expensive antiques, modern pieces and flea market finds to create modern and elegant interiors influenced by her Swedish background.

For a while now I've been thinking of redecorating my room, I want it to be more colorful and fun. When I moved into my apartment last year my father had just passed away and my mood was a lot different from the one that I have now. It's time to change and let more brightness into my life. Soooo, I think I'm going to be using Jill's style as inspiration for my own room renovation.

Here are some images for you to enjoy, I hope you love them as much as I did.

DESIGN INSPIRATION: TWELVE CHAIRS

This morning I was checking my e-mails and came upon one Daily Candy newsletter that featured Boston Based home furnishing shop Twelve Chairs. Turns out they also have they're own blog which I decide to check out and found some amazing images that I thought where so inspirational.  There's this one specific post that talks about salon style gallery walls that I was very much attracted to, they even included a little art history fact:

salon style display dates back to seventeenth century Paris where the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture would exhibit the artwork of recent graduates by closely mounting their pieces all in one room. Little did these Parisians know that they would be influencing the way we display artwork in our homes some 300 years later!

Next to fashion, interior design is one of my life's passions, I LOVE IT!!! I wish I had more spaces available to decorate (Oh, and more money too).  Someday in the near future I'm gonna have a salon style gallery wall filled with colorful pieces of art. I'm very much the eclectic type of gal.

So I just wanted to share with you this images that I'll be using as inspiration in the future for my own salon style gallery wall. And don't forget to visit Twelve Chairs website and blog, I do owe them this wonderful images that have completely brighten up my day, most likely you'll end up finding some inspirational images yourself. If you live near the area just go ahead and pay them a visit, I wish I could but I'm thousands of miles away!!!

Have a wonderful bright day!!!

Until next!!!

STYLISH LIVING

Last night I went to the home of two of my dearest friends. Not long ago they moved into their own apartment and little by little they have been decorating it and filling it up with wonderful things. Since they both have impeccable taste the end results have been a delight to the eye.

The apartment is not yet finished, however I took the liberty of snapping some pictures of the entryway and the living room. Quite frankly I don't know why I didn't take some of the fabulous guest bathroom it's painted all red, FANTASTIC!!! Maybe next time I go I'll take some more pictures of the rest of the house and share them with you. They also have a really fun and colorful kitchen painted in some shade of parrot green, pretty cool also.

Anyhow I hope I don't get sued for posting the pictures jajajaja I thought they could be of great inspiration for anyone looking for great decorating ideas. I have to admit some of my friends have really nice homes decorated with outstanding taste, a mix of modern and old and some go modern all the way. I on the other hand know that probably if I had a home of my own it would end up looking like some vintage market. Right now I'm in the process of decorating my room so pretty soon I'll be sharing some images with you so you let me know what you think.

Soooo, enjoy this feast to the eye!!!

The living room. Notice the amazing wall of mirrors, my favorite!!!

The chandelier candle holders, one of my favorite details, that and the mirror wall.

There's lots of art in this image, the illuminated face sculpture, the horse made out of metallic wire, the glass sculpture in the back, the crystal ball that glows in the dark....

A view of the entryway from the living room.

The dinning room painting a true masterpiece!!!

French inspired chairs next to a chinese style console, how can you not love it.

The cool chair of the house that no one sits in because...well...it's really not meant for that (obviously).

That's all folks!!!

Until next time!!! Enjoy a wonderful weekend!!!
