BACK TO SCHOOL: A BEAUTY DISPLAY

Ok, so maybe I got a little bit carried away with the postings today but that's just how I am. You might as well just get used to this kind of behavior. Sometimes I give you nothing, and sometimes I give you too much. I promise I'm not a crazy mentally unbalanced girl. Ok, maybe just a little bit, like any other creative person. There's just too many things going on inside our heads! I actually have something really cool planned for tomorrow. You guys are just gonna have to stay tuned if you don't want to miss it.

Anyhow, back at the ranch. Like I mentioned on my last post (uploaded just a few seconds ago), tomorrow I have to do another visual display project for my visual merchandising class. The purpose of the project is to create a beauty display utilizing things that we can find around our bathroom. With this in mind I headed to Anthropologie on Lincoln Road to find some cute little girlie bathroom stuff for my project. Here's some of the items I'm using. I'm not showing you everything because, like I said before, I want the end result to be a surprise. However, you do get the feeling of my idea by looking at these images. How exciting! #iloveprojecting (projecting: the action of engaging in girlie crafty projects).

BACK TO SCHOOL: ACCESSORIES DISPLAY PROJECT

Hello there dear friends! Yes, I know, I'm a terrible friend. One that comes and goes, and sometimes just simply disappears for days without giving any signs of life. For those of you who don't know, I'm back to school. This is precisely why I'm in Miami. I'm studying fashion merchandising at the Miami International University of Art & Design. I started school in April and it's been quite an amazing learning experience. Sometimes we're wise asses and we think we know everything, but the truth of the matter is that we don't. These past 5 months I've learned more than I expected. This is also why I sometimes go M.I.A. Not enough time for everything, or maybe I just need to organize myself a little better (ok, I admit it! maybe I should just stop watching show marathons on Netflix).

Anyhow, I wanted to share with you a project I did last week for my visual merchandising II class. This is my favorite class because it challenges my creativity and I love that. It can only make me better. The purpose of the project was to create an accessories display using things that we could find around our kitchen, or the supermarket. We had to come up with three different ways to display the same accessories, using the same props. Here's what I came up with. Hope you like it. Let me know which one's your favorite (if you have one).

Tomorrow we have another project. I get so excited with projects. I'm a project snob. Tomorrow in class we have to create a beauty display using things that we could find around our bathrooms. For this I went to Anthropologie to get myself some cute little bathroom stuff (so girlie). I'm preparing another post to show you some of the items and props I'll be using. I'm not showing you everything because I want the end result to be a surprise. I think you guys are gonna like it.

So my dear friends, enjoy the rest of your afternoon, and until next!

FASHION NEWS: J.CREW SEPTEMBER STYLE GUIDE

If you are a J.Crew snob like I am, then you probably already know that the company released an exclusive first look of their September Style Guide on Pinterest this past Monday (you didn't know?). If you still haven't seen it, then maybe you should take a few minutes and decide for yourself wether you like it or not. As much as I've been a fan ever since Jenna Lyons took over the reins and transformed J.Crew into something cool that you could actually be seen wearing, I will admit I'm not crazy about the September Style Guide. It all seems a little bit boring, except for the "sneakers with practically everything" concept that has been going on for a quite a while now in street style, and that obviously J.Crew is now endorsing. Who doesn't love sneakers nowadays? According to the J.Crew creative team, you can wear sneakers with your business suit. In my personal opinion you might just end up receiving a call from human resources. Better just stick to wear them for walking to work. At least sneakers are cool now. Back in the 80's and 90's you could spot women all over NYC walking around in the most hideous white athletic sneakers. Horrible!

However, just because It looks a little bit boring at glance it doesn't mean that I don't have some favorites I would like to get for the upcoming season. At the end of the day it's J.Crew, of course I want something they have (like maybe the metallic silver Oxfords. Ummm YEAH!)

J.Crew boyfriend fatigue jacket in camouflage.

J.Crew Etta studded heal pumps (floral printed of course).

J.Crew mirror metallic oxfords.

Yeah, for all of you youngsters out there, this really happened, like, fo real! The Sex And The City creators didn't just made it up, it's actually part of the history of fashion archives.

OUTFIT POST: HOW TO WEAR A 1940'S RETRO INSPIRED ROMPER

Good morning guys! We're halfway thru the week so you should be happy. When you least expect it it's already Sunday and you're having a hangover from all the weekend's partying woohoo.

Yesterday I shared with you the details of my retro inspired romper or like my friend Hans says, shorteralls, whichever suits your fancy best. Today I'm showing you the complete look. The "shorteralls" are Leifnotes from Anthropologie, shoes are from Massimo Dutti (most comfortable heel ever), necklace is vintage, sunglasses are from Stradivarius (I Think), and the fedora I bought at Scotch & Soda. Like I mentioned in the outfit details post, I would love to wear this outfit with an actual vintage or vintage inspired turban and retro looking Prada sunglasses. Wouldn't that be awesome (red lips, cat eyeliner, and massive amounts of mascara of course).

This outfit is specially flattering for those women who wish to create the illusion of a curvier figure. Why? Because it has an hourglass silhouette (defined waist, loose bottom, and volume around the shoulder areas). Also flattering for women with a triangle shape body because the sleeves help to create the illusion of a more proportionate figure. In overall a very feminine, womanly, but also playful look.

Hope you like it! Have fun creating outfits yourself. Remember, you never know who you might end up inspiring with your own creativity. Believe it or not there's always someone watching you.

OUTFIT DETAILS: 1940'S RETRO INSPIRED ROMPER

You guys want to know why I decided to start these outfit details posts? Here it goes...

Most of the time people pay way to much attention to celebrities and famous bloggers lives, what they wear (meaning brands), where they are going, what they are doing, and how they are mix and matching their clothing to copy or imitate or to simply find inspiration to create their own outfits or fantasize about having a different kind of life. This is perfectly fine, I do it myself too, but how often do we really take the time to appreciate what makes a piece of clothing or accessory or shoe so special? When do we pay homage to the little details? If there is something my mother taught me when I was a little girl it is to appreciate even the smallest of details because they are what set apart something average from something spectacular. Sometimes I go inside high end designer boutiques to literally dissect each and every piece of clothing just to marvel myself. I love to feel the fabrics and appreciate each and every sartorial detail because that is in fact the integrity of piece. That is exactly why I fell in love with fashion, not because I wanted to be surrounded by luxury and labels, but because I fell in love with the integrity of clothing, the little details.

Ever since I moved to Miami and started school again I've been feeling a new wave of inspiration and creativity flowing inside of me. Don't get me wrong, I love my native Guatemala, it is the most beautiful country but I guess I just needed a little change. When I came here I noticed all my clothes where mostly jeans and in neutral colors (don't ask me why, I was going thru a phase). I looked boring and I was boiling (of course). So I decided to go shopping for colors, and prints, and everything short. Now I get excited when I dress in the morning, a feeling I had lost. Now I feel feminine, and girlie, and sexy, and all things good. One of the pieces I bought on my shopping expedition is this floral print romper from Leifnotes that I bought at Anthropologie (my happy place). Reason I love it so much is because it's design and cut has a 1940's retro feel to it, and we all know I love retro. Take a look at the little details around the sleeves and you'll understand what I'm talking about. Wait till you see it on me. This time I thought it would be interesting to wear it with my Scotch & Soda (my other happy place) fedora but I would love to find the perfect turban to wear with it (and retro looking Prada sunglasses). If anyone knows where I can find one let me know. Meanwhile enjoy the little details and stay tuned for the complete look coming later on.

MERCEDES BENZ FASHION WEEK SWIM MIAMI

Hello everyone! Hope you're having a wonderful Monday. I'm back after a few days of vacation. Well actually it wasn't quite like that (no I wasn't sipping caipirinhas in Rio de Janeiro, I wish). I think that a lot of you already know that last week was Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim where all the top swimwear designers show their collections for summer 2014 here in Miami. I actually got to do some really hard volunteer work with the shows that took place at The Raleigh Hotel and at the Miami Beach Convention Center. That's one of the great things about being a fashion student at the Miami International University of Art and Design, they motivate us to be part of everything fashion that is going on in Miami. I literally did everything: I put together gift bags, inflated about 50 beach balls, got wet, sweat like pig, got frizzy hair, helped put together the backstage, I was in charge of sponsor seating in one of the venues, did guest check in, and worked as a dresser. Let me tell you, that was a lot of work in four days. All work and no play but it was great. Today my feet hurt, my legs hurt, my butt hurts, and I think I even might've lost a couple of pounds from being on my feet up and down all day long (the pros of working in fashion).

This was my Thursday to Sunday schedule. On Thursday I got to volunteer to set up the official kick off party celebrating 25 years of Roxy with Roxy Pop Surf, on Friday morning I worked backstage at the tents and then in the afternoon I did sponsor seating, which was pretty cool because I actually got to see the shows for Agua Bendita, Dolores Cortés, and Beach Bunny, Saturday I was doing guest check-in at the Sun-Covered party presented by Ocean Drive Magazine, and on Sunday I was a dresser for the swimwear show organized by the Swimwear Association of Florida at the Miami Beach Convention Center. This precise show was huge and really cool and I was impressed of how well organized it was. There were more than 300 looks and a legion of models. I had to dress two models, about 6 looks each, it was hectic but an amazing experience. At the end of the day this is what its all about, learning, experiencing, meeting new people and having fun while doing it.

I didn't get to take any pictures because we're not allowed but here are the videos from the shows I got to be part of. I can't wait to get my hands on a couple of those bikinis next summer!

Until my next fashion adventure guys! Enjoy the sexy ladies!

OUFIT DETAILS: BUSTIERS AND HIGH WAISTED SHORTS

So, you guys didn't think I was done with my bustier did you? In fact I still have a few other ideas cooking up that I want to share with you further on. You're gonna love them.

Today I'm showing you a way to wear a bustier with high waisted shorts. Again, the key word here is "high waisted." I bought this linen high waisted shorts a couple of years ago at Massimo Dutti. Whenever I need great classic pieces I go to Massimo Dutti. They're really good quality considering their price (although in Guatemala Massimo Dutti is not really cheap like in Spain). Every single piece of clothing that I've bought there has lasted me a very long time. This shorts are also incredibly versatile because of their neutral color, you can pair them up with several other tops and look great. I'm thinking a classic white button down shirt, basic little white t-shirt, a soft button down silk shirt, or a gingham bustier like the one in this post. I once wore this shorts with the cutest sailor stripe top with short ruffled sleeves, also from Massimo Dutti. The great thing about this outfit (aside from the fact that the shorts cover my not so tight stomach) is that the neutral color of the shorts allow the bustier to stand out and be the center of attention, which is exactly what we want.

I visualize myself wearing this outfit while on vacation in Rio de Janeiro. I'm always fantasizing about being in Rio de Janeiro and you'll here me say it over and over again.

Right now I'm showing you only outfit details. Why? because beauty is in the details and because it encourages fantasy and creativity. Later on today I'll be uploading the complete look post. As always, you're  just gonna have to stick around fo mo!

OUTFIT POST: HOW TO WEAR A BUSTIER AND TULLE SKIRT

Ok guys, just as promised. I procrastinated for a little while buuuuut here you have it, a complete outfit look. Yet another narcissistic post about me. I kind of wanted to stop with the narcissism which is why I started doing the outfit details posts but you guys asked for it, and of course you're wishes are my command (not all though, I'm not getting naked). I'm telling you, moving to another country is not easy. In Guatemala I had a cool background for my outfit posts and I also had a team of incredible professionals working with me on my Mademoiselle Red posts but now that I moved to Miami I have to start from zero all over again. It's ok, no biggie, we did it once, we'll do it again. Ain't nobody got no time to be afraid of new challenges. I have faith that God will lead me to the right people and when I least expect it I'm gonna be working again with amazing creative people.

By the way, I can't believe my necklace flipped around in most of the photographs, sorry for that, photographing oneself is not easy. Anyhow you get the point. Also, In case you didn't get to see the outfit details post click here

STYLE BY RED TEST KITCHEN: SPINACH & EGGS

Ok, I know I told you I was gonna start my Style by Red test kitchen posts with the fried chicken and jalapeño coleslaw sandwich/burger recipe but something came up first.

This morning when I woke up I had totally different plans. First I wanted to go to the beach and then I was supposed to have brunch with my friends but I had to cancel everything and go on a different direction. Reason is I'm going to Guatemala tomorrow and I needed to get a lot of things done.  Since I wasn't gonna be having any brunch or mimosas with my friends anymore I decided to cook something yummy for myself. Here's my own healthy, yummy, easy to cook, home made brunch.

STYLE BY RED: BEACH ESSENTIALS

This morning I woke up feeling like going to the beach for some fun in the sun. Unfortunately I had to cancel my plans because tomorrow I'm going to my beautiful Guatemala for two weeks to visit my friends and family and I have quite a few things to do before I leave (clean house, do laundry, go to Publix, finish work, do some last minute shopping for family, the usual). I've been living in Miami for three months and I never go to the beach! Which is why starting July 8th (this is when I come back from Guatemala) I'm going to the beach every Friday with or without someone. This is going to be my new Miami tradition. I'm gonna wake up early, go to boxing classes at Fight Club, then I'm gonna grab a smoothie at Jugo Fresh and then I'll be off to the beach (and then later on maybe I'll meet my friends for happy hour). This is why I moved to Miami, I wanted to experience a different kind of life and that is exactly what I'm gonna do.

Anyways, basically this are my beach essentials (minus the sunblock and the obvious beauty necessities).

Reiss bikini that I bought at Bloomingdales in Aventura Mall, Scotch &Soda fedora hat, Zara sunglasses, vintage necklace, ethnic style beach dress I bought at Playa del Carmen a few years ago, Grace Coddington memoir, Naked juice (or any other kind of nutritious juice), and last but not least my iShuffle.

SUMMER DRESSING 101: STAY FRESH AND FASHIONABLE

Yesterday was my second day teaching the fashion styling & personal shopping class in Spanish for the Sterling Style Academy here in Miami. The girls are learning a lot and they're starting to talk like real professionals already. Today is our third and last day. The third day is the funnest because we get to do what us ladies love doing the most: Shopping!!! But before I head off to class I wanna show you what I wore yesterday. It's Miami, so that means it's incredibly hot, and it's a fashion class so it's important to look fashionable and professional. Here's a good way to wear flower prints this summer without looking too girlie or matronly.

Belted flower printed jumper from Anthropologie

Patent leather and satin neon orange pumps from J.Crew

Vintage necklace that belonged to my beautiful grandmother

My three signature vintage watches that belonged to my father.

STYLE BY RED BEAUTY FIND: LANCOME BAUME IN LOVE

Good morning everyone! Today I'm posting really early but I just have so much to do later. I'm so impressed at how quick this week has passed by. Maybe it's because I'm sooooo looking forward to going to Guatemala and visit my family and friends. Guatemala may lack a lot of things that the cosmopolitan cities abound of but Guatemalans are by far the nicest and friendliest people in the world. I miss that.

Anyhwo... I have a lipstick story to tell you. I'm not a huuuge lipstick girl. There was this time a couple of years ago that I tried wearing lipstick every day but in the end I just found it to be a bit uncomfortable for many reasons. Don't get me wrong, I think that lipstick is a wonderful thing but when it comes to my day to day I try to avoid it. However I do admit that sometimes my lips look a little dry and pale, which is why the other day while I was at Nordstrom's in Village of Merrick Park buying facial creams (what a mission it is to be a woman) the nice sales lady at Lancome introduced me to Baume IN LOVE lip balm (of course she did) and I loved it (of course I did). It moisturizes my lips and it adds a tiny bit of color so I don't look so lipless. Now I feel like my lips can't live without it.

How cool is this makeup bag I got as a gift for my purchase. The wonderful thing about spending shitloads of money on beauty products is that in the end you MIGHT just get a gift with purchase. If you don't then for sure you get free samples (woohoo).
