MOMS ARE CUTE

I have to admit that even though I haven't been away from Guatemala for too long (three months is not that much) I sorta feel disoriented, like I don't know where to start my day. Needless to say I'm still in my pajamas figuring out what to do. Exercise would be a good idea. 

Anyhow... How cute is my mom. Yesterday when I got home I noticed these beautiful yellow roses she had bought for me. She knows how much I love bright yellow roses, they add color, brightness, interest, and contrast to a room. So much more interesting than white roses (red flowers are for lovers). Also my super cute niece made for me a welcome card that said how much she'd missed me. I love them! This is reason enough for me to come to Guatemala.

BOMBORA LOOK OF THE WEEK: ETHNIC CHIC

For a while now ethnic fabrics have been quite the trend, specially the one's from our native Guatemala.  Last year they made their presence strong in accessories, handbags, shoes, bracelets...Although it looks like it don't think this dress was found at one of our picturesque local markets here in Guatemala, it's actually Billabong. Yes! From the land down under. The Australian brand that once upon a time designed attire mostly for surfers now is making beautiful day dresses you can wear over the weekend (or during the week if you're not forced to follow a strict work dress code). It seems they have taken interest in our one of a kind colorful textiles. As Guatemalans this makes us incredibly proud of our roots. I don't think this fabric was made in Guatemala but it sure is inspired by it.

Once again here's our beautiful Ashley modeling for us. Another way to wear this dress if the temperature drops down a couple of degrees is to put on a pair of tight and boots or booties and voilá! Or if you're not the high heels during the day kind of girl like me you can wear it with flat sandals. There's always a solution for everyone.

Desde hace un tiempo que los textiles étnicos han son tremenda tendencia, especialmente los de nuestra nativa Guatemala. El año pasado tuvieron una presencia muy fuerte en accesorios, bolsos, zapatos, brazaletes... Aunque lo parece no se crean que este vestido fue encontrado en uno de nuestros pintorescos mercados locales aquí en Guatemala, de hecho es Billabong. Si! De la tierra más abajo. La marca Australiana que alguna vez diseñaba más que nada para surfistas ahora esta fabricando lindos vestidos de día que puedes vestir durante el fin de semana (o durante la semana si no te ves forzada a seguir un estricto código de vestimenta de trabajo). Parece ser que han tomado gran interés en nuestros textiles coloridos y únicos. Como guatemaltecos esto nos hace sentir increíblemente orgullosos de nuestras raíces. No creo que esta tela haya sido hecha en Guatemala pero sin duda alguna está inspirada en ella. 

Una vez más nuestra bella Ashley modelando para nosotros. Otra forma de usar este vestido si la temperatura baja un par de grados es con tights y botas o botines y voilá! O si tu no eres el estilo de chica que usa tacones durante el día como yo puedes usarlo con sandalias bajas. Siempre hay una solución para todas.

GUATEMALTECOS EXTRAORDINARIOS: IT'S TIME TO GIVE, LOVE, AND SHARE

It's not always about fashion and a lot of the time about humanity. On Tuesday I had the honor of spending the morning with the team of Guatemaltecos Extraordinarios. I don't really want to talk too much about it because I want these images to speak by themselves, however I do want to say something. We're always complaining about violence in our country, how the justice and security systems don't work, etc, etc, etc... But I'll tell you that as long as this kids are wandering around the streets being used and abused no matter how flawless the justice and security systems, there will always be crime, there will always be another potential gang member. The only real and sustainable way to fight violence and get this kids off the streets and into the classrooms is thru the power of love. No siempre se trata de moda y muchas veces se trata de la humanidad. El martes tuve el honor de pasar la mañana con el equipo de Guatemaltecos extraordinarios. No quiero hablar mucho porque quiero que las imágenes hablen por si solas. Sin embargo si quisiera decir algo. Siempre nos quejamos de la violencia en nuestro país, como los sistema de justicia y seguridad no funcionan, etc, etc, etc... Pero les digo algo, mientras estos niños anden por las calles siendo usados y abusados, no importa que tan perfecto sean nuestros sistemas de justicia y seguridad siempre va a existir el crimen, siempre va a haber un potencial miembro de las maras. La única forma real y sostenible de combatir la violencia es a través del poder del amor. MADEMOISELLE GUATEMALA

One of the most beautiful things we have in Guatemala (aside from our wonderful weather, amazing landscapes, friendly people...) are our one of a kind textiles, each one more beautiful than the other one, and each one with it's own powerful meaning. There's years and years of history behind them. Even though lately they have become the stylish thing to wear (clothes, shoes, handbags, accessories...) I've always loved them. I like to mix traditional pieces with other contemporary ones. Here's a dress I bought a couple of years ago at Museo Ixchel, I mixed it up with my Kenzo belt and a yellow scarf as turban (I love wearing things on my head). I hope you feel inspired to do a mixing of your own. 

Una de las cosas más bellas que tenemos en Guatemala (además de su clima maravilloso, hermosos paisajes, gente amigable...) son nuestros textiles únicos, cada uno más lindo que el otro y cada uno con su propio significado poderoso. Hay años de años de historia detrás de ellos. Aunque recientemente se han convertido en algo estiloso de llevar puesto (ropa, zapatos, bolsos, accesorios...) siempre me han gustado y me encanta mezclar piezas tradicionales con otras contemporáneas. Aquí tengo un vestido que compré hace un par de años en el Museo Ixchel, lo mezclé con mi cinturón Kenzo y con una chalina amarilla como turbante (amo usar cosas en la cabeza). Espero ustedes también se sientan inspirados a hacer sus propias mezclas.

CIRCUITO MODA RUNWAY SHOWS

Hello my dear readers. I'm so sorry I abandoned you for a couple of days. On Tuesday I came to Miami with my best friend and to make long story short I LOST MY CAMERA!!! I think I left it at the car rental!!! We took the wrong car, had to take it back, left camera inside other car ahhhhhhhhh. This is why I haven't been able to post any photos (that and I'm a loser for owning a BB and not an iphone). Anyhow, this situation will have to be solved soon or else....

Today I want to remind you of the CIRCUITO MODA runway shows to be held tonight and tomorrow at the Museum of Modern Art "Carlos Mérida." Local Guatemalan designers will be showcasing this season's collections. Which designers are participating? The trio from Escarlata, Edgar Navarro, Jose Ramirez and Cristina Reyna. Jose Medina, Mynor Véliz, Liz Tanner, Freaky Funk, Estuardo Figueroa Couture, and last but not least Guillermo Jop.

Hola mis queridos lectores. Siento mucho haberlos abandonado por un par de días. El martes vine a Miami con mi mejor amiga y para no hacerles larga la historia PERDI MI CÁMARA!!! Creo que la dejé en la rentadora de autos!!! Nos llevamos el auto equivocado, tuvimos que regresar el auto equivocado, dejé cámara dentro del auto equivocado ahhhhhhhhhhh. Es por esto que no he podido subir ninguna foto (eso y el hecho que soy una perdedora por tener BB y no iphone). En fin, esta situación tendrá que solucionarse pronto o.... 

Hoy quiero recordarles de las pasarelas de CIRCUITO MODA que se realizaran esta noche y mañana en el Museo de Arte Moderno "Carlos Mérida." Diseñadores locales mostrarán sus colecciones de la temporada. ¿Qué diseñadores estarán participando? El trio de Escarlata, Edgar Navarro, Jose Ramirez and Cristina Reyna. MON PARFUM: BOND NO.9 NUIT DE NOHO

I'm frequently asked what perfume I wear. Reason why everybody asks me is because it smells heavenly (and don't even get me stated with the body lotion and candles). You have to know something about me: I HATE PERFUMES!!! The worst gift in the world you can give me is a perfume unless it's Bond No. 9 Nuits de Noho. I'v been using Bond No.9 for 7 years now and I will keep on using it for a very long time.  I've decided to make it my signature perfume. 

I was first introduced to their captivating scents back in 2004 while on a trip to Miami with my best friend Kika. We where wondering around Saks Fifth Avenue with no intention of buying anything whatsoever when all of a sudden this very persistent sales person at the fragrance department insisted that we try the new Bond No. 9 fragrances. I will never forget this man, he used the most elevated and delicious words to sell perfume. I have to admit that at first I felt it was a bit strong probably because I have a very sensitive sense of smell. He spritzed a bit of perfume on a paper card that I put inside my agenda. After that I forgot about the perfume and went back to Guatemala. About 4 months after that I opened my agenda where I found the perfumed paper and guess what? it still smelled!!! Amazing!!! That's when I decided I would only use Bond No. 9 Nuit de Noho from then on. 

Back in Guatemala I had to be patient and waited another couple of months (maybe more) until I went on a trip to Boston to finally be able to get myself a Bond No.9 perfume. I remember me and my friends went to Louis Boston, one of the most beautiful multi brand stores I've ever been to, where I was surprised to find Bond No.9 From that day on I'm faithful to Nuit de Noho.

THE MANY COLORS AT C'SANTOS

I saw this wonderful and colorful earrings at C'Santos and thought it was the perfect material to share with you this week. It's amazing what a pair of beautiful earrings can do to a woman. I think my favorite ones are the yellow chalcedony with old mine cut diamonds, just imagine a long navy blue dress with those earrings on! Meet Guatemala's Historic Center!!! This friday I had the opportunity to wonder around the streets of Guatemala (Zone 1 to be exact) and decided to take some pictures to share with you. I always feel like walking around the streets of our beautiful city, however I can never find the right company, this time I did and I was thrilled.
