OUTFIT DETAILS: 1940'S RETRO INSPIRED ROMPER

You guys want to know why I decided to start these outfit details posts? Here it goes...

Most of the time people pay way to much attention to celebrities and famous bloggers lives, what they wear (meaning brands), where they are going, what they are doing, and how they are mix and matching their clothing to copy or imitate or to simply find inspiration to create their own outfits or fantasize about having a different kind of life. This is perfectly fine, I do it myself too, but how often do we really take the time to appreciate what makes a piece of clothing or accessory or shoe so special? When do we pay homage to the little details? If there is something my mother taught me when I was a little girl it is to appreciate even the smallest of details because they are what set apart something average from something spectacular. Sometimes I go inside high end designer boutiques to literally dissect each and every piece of clothing just to marvel myself. I love to feel the fabrics and appreciate each and every sartorial detail because that is in fact the integrity of piece. That is exactly why I fell in love with fashion, not because I wanted to be surrounded by luxury and labels, but because I fell in love with the integrity of clothing, the little details.

Ever since I moved to Miami and started school again I've been feeling a new wave of inspiration and creativity flowing inside of me. Don't get me wrong, I love my native Guatemala, it is the most beautiful country but I guess I just needed a little change. When I came here I noticed all my clothes where mostly jeans and in neutral colors (don't ask me why, I was going thru a phase). I looked boring and I was boiling (of course). So I decided to go shopping for colors, and prints, and everything short. Now I get excited when I dress in the morning, a feeling I had lost. Now I feel feminine, and girlie, and sexy, and all things good. One of the pieces I bought on my shopping expedition is this floral print romper from Leifnotes that I bought at Anthropologie (my happy place). Reason I love it so much is because it's design and cut has a 1940's retro feel to it, and we all know I love retro. Take a look at the little details around the sleeves and you'll understand what I'm talking about. Wait till you see it on me. This time I thought it would be interesting to wear it with my Scotch & Soda (my other happy place) fedora but I would love to find the perfect turban to wear with it (and retro looking Prada sunglasses). If anyone knows where I can find one let me know. Meanwhile enjoy the little details and stay tuned for the complete look coming later on.

OUTFIT POST: HOW TO WEAR A BUSTIER AND TULLE SKIRT

Ok guys, just as promised. I procrastinated for a little while buuuuut here you have it, a complete outfit look. Yet another narcissistic post about me. I kind of wanted to stop with the narcissism which is why I started doing the outfit details posts but you guys asked for it, and of course you're wishes are my command (not all though, I'm not getting naked). I'm telling you, moving to another country is not easy. In Guatemala I had a cool background for my outfit posts and I also had a team of incredible professionals working with me on my Mademoiselle Red posts but now that I moved to Miami I have to start from zero all over again. It's ok, no biggie, we did it once, we'll do it again. Ain't nobody got no time to be afraid of new challenges. I have faith that God will lead me to the right people and when I least expect it I'm gonna be working again with amazing creative people.

By the way, I can't believe my necklace flipped around in most of the photographs, sorry for that, photographing oneself is not easy. Anyhow you get the point. Also, In case you didn't get to see the outfit details post click here

SUMMER DRESSING 101: STAY FRESH AND FASHIONABLE

Yesterday was my second day teaching the fashion styling & personal shopping class in Spanish for the Sterling Style Academy here in Miami. The girls are learning a lot and they're starting to talk like real professionals already. Today is our third and last day. The third day is the funnest because we get to do what us ladies love doing the most: Shopping!!! But before I head off to class I wanna show you what I wore yesterday. It's Miami, so that means it's incredibly hot, and it's a fashion class so it's important to look fashionable and professional. Here's a good way to wear flower prints this summer without looking too girlie or matronly.

Belted flower printed jumper from Anthropologie

Patent leather and satin neon orange pumps from J.Crew

Vintage necklace that belonged to my beautiful grandmother

My three signature vintage watches that belonged to my father.

IVY LOOK OF THE WEEK: SUMMER TOPS

(English)

It's official, summer time is here. Today for example feels hot, hot, hot!!! The worst part is that I have to go renew my drivers license, which by the way I just recently noticed that it had expired in December (oops). It's this time of year that makes you feel like going nude outside is your best option. However no need for such drastic measures. Las week I paid Ivy boutique a visit and noticed their newly arrived collection of fresh summer tops. Here are three very fresh, comfortable, and chic options.

Sometimes it can get a little chillier at night. A boho chic scarf wouldn't be such a bad idea
Algunas veces se pone un poco frío por la noche. Una chalina al estilo boho chic no sería mala idea

TODAY I'M FELLING FESTIVE

Ok, I admit it I might've just broken the rules of color blocking. In theory I'm not supposed to mix more than three colors in one single outfit (unless it's a print) and here I'm mixing 4 colors and I'm not counting the necklace, but you know what, I like it, I think it looks pretty darn fun.  Sometimes it gets a little bit gloomy here in Guatemala so it's good to wear color to make yourself and the one's around you feel a little bit more festive.

PERFECT SUMMER NECKLACE

If you follow me on Twitter and Facebook you probably already noticed how obsessed I am with Pinterest (like the rest of the whole world), that thing is highly addictive but it's the perfect place to find inspiration. Anyhow, today while I was "Pinteresting" I found this image and thought it was the perfect summer necklace, it's colorful, it's fun, it makes a statement and it's gorgeous, I totally visualize myself wearing it with a long maxi dress or tunic (I'm infatuated with tunics) and flat sandals somewhere where there are lots of palm trees hahahah I'm always visualizing myself where there's ocean and palm trees (and tropical drinks) somewhere where I don't have to wear too much clothes hahaha.

¿How would you wear this necklace?

SUMMER DRESSING 101

I'm a summer person, I love the hot weather, palm trees, ocean and the overall tropical feeling. I like wearing sandals, maxi dresses and very little clothes but how do we give outfits that extra special something when the heat starts to rise and clothes start to come off? Summer is the season to take advantage of those wonderful colorful clutches, chic panama hats, stackable bracelets, oversized sunglasses, statement necklaces and dangly earrings (and of course keep those toes clean and pretty with all the lovely summer colors). Summer is the time to show off that pretty figure of yours that you've been working so hard on and to be as feminine as you can be.  Here are some ideas on how to give that special twist to a regular summer dress. Accessories (and the way you wear them of course) is what differentiates you from other people that wear exactly the same thing you do.

If you don't like to accessorize that much, you can always take something off, but do try to give your summer outfits that little something extra that is going to make it special.

TODAY'S OUTFIT: SUMMER ROMPER

Have I told you how hot it is in Guatemala right now? Oh wait...I have...Like a hundred times!!! It's sooooo freakin' hot I just feel like going out naked bust since we all know I can't do that I decided to wear my navy blue romper I bought a couple of months ago at Anthropologie, purple converse (since I'm diggin' so much the sneaker trend) and layers of statement necklaces. You'll notice that at first I thought about wearing high heel wedges and my hair down but for some reason I wasn't feeling it so I changed to sneakers and picked up my hair. I'm a tall girl so when I wear this particular wedges I look gigantic next to everyone here in Guatemala which is why sometimes I just simply prefer to wear flats. It's not that I feel bad about my hight, all the contrary!!! I love being tall but flats are more comfortable and I need to move a lot every day.

FRIDAY OUTFIT: T-BAGS LOS ANGELES

The weather is so crazy in Guatemala I swear there are days that I just simply don't know what to wear, it's humid and at hot and then all of a sudden it gets chilly at night, really the only thing you want to do is wear something that feels fresh (and of course chic) at all times. Sometimes I wish I was walking around with a tunic on or perhaps a very stylish kaftan, like I was in a 1960's Copacabana movie. Anyhow... to my rescue came this T-Bags dress, with it I feel comfortable and fresh and chic without compromising style. Don't you agree? I just simply love it!!! Needless to say this you can find it at Atelier where they have some other amazing T-Bags pieces that are to die for. I highly recommend that you go check them out.
