OUTFIT POST: HOW TO WEAR A 1940'S RETRO INSPIRED ROMPER

Good morning guys! We're halfway thru the week so you should be happy. When you least expect it it's already Sunday and you're having a hangover from all the weekend's partying woohoo. 

Yesterday I shared with you the details of my retro inspired romper or like my friend Hans says, shorteralls, whichever suits your fancy best. Today I'm showing you the complete look. The "shorteralls" are Leifnotes from Anthropologie, shoes are from Massimo Dutti (most comfortable heel ever), necklace is vintage, sunglasses are from Stradivarius (I Think), and the fedora I bought at Scotch & Soda. Like I mentioned in the outfit details post, I would love to wear this outfit with an actual vintage or vintage inspired turban and retro looking Prada sunglasses. Wouldn't that be awesome (red lips, cat eyeliner, and massive amounts of mascara of course). 

This outfit is specially flattering for those women who wish to create the illusion of a curvier figure. Why? Because it has an hourglass silhouette (defined waist, loose bottom, and volume around the shoulder areas). Also flattering for women with a triangle shape body because the sleeves help to create the illusion of a more proportionate figure. In overall a very feminine, womanly, but also playful look.

OUTFIT DETAILS: 1940'S RETRO INSPIRED ROMPER

You guys want to know why I decided to start these outfit details posts? Here it goes...

Most of the time people pay way to much attention to celebrities and famous bloggers lives, what they wear (meaning brands), where they are going, what they are doing, and how they are mix and matching their clothing to copy or imitate or to simply find inspiration to create their own outfits or fantasize about having a different kind of life. This is perfectly fine, I do it myself too, but how often do we really take the time to appreciate what makes a piece of clothing or accessory or shoe so special? When do we pay homage to the little details? If there is something my mother taught me when I was a little girl it is to appreciate even the smallest of details because they are what set apart something average from something spectacular. Sometimes I go inside high end designer boutiques to literally dissect each and every piece of clothing just to marvel myself. I love to feel the fabrics and appreciate each and every sartorial detail because that is in fact the integrity of piece. That is exactly why I fell in love with fashion, not because I wanted to be surrounded by luxury and labels, but because I fell in love with the integrity of clothing, the little details. 

Ever since I moved to Miami and started school again I've been feeling a new wave of inspiration and creativity flowing inside of me. Don't get me wrong, I love my native Guatemala, it is the most beautiful country but I guess I just needed a little change. When I came here I noticed all my clothes where mostly jeans and in neutral colors (don't ask me why, I was going thru a phase). I looked boring and I was boiling (of course). So I decided to go shopping for colors, and prints, and everything short. Now I get excited when I dress in the morning, a feeling I had lost. Now I feel feminine, and girlie, and sexy, and all things good. One of the pieces I bought on my shopping expedition is this floral print romper from Leifnotes that I bought at Anthropologie (my happy place). Reason I love it so much is because it's design and cut has a 1940's retro feel to it, and we all know I love retro. Take a look at the little details around the sleeves and you'll understand what I'm talking about. Wait till you see it on me. This time I thought it would be interesting to wear it with my Scotch & Soda (my other happy place) fedora but I would love to find the perfect turban to wear with it (and retro looking Prada sunglasses). OUFIT DETAILS: BUSTIERS AND HIGH WAISTED SHORTS

So, you guys didn't think I was done with my bustier did you? In fact I still have a few other ideas cooking up that I want to share with you further on. You're gonna love them. 

Today I'm showing you a way to wear a bustier with high waisted shorts. Again, the key word here is "high waisted." I bought this linen high waisted shorts a couple of years ago at Massimo Dutti. Whenever I need great classic pieces I go to Massimo Dutti. They're really good quality considering their price (although in Guatemala Massimo Dutti is not really cheap like in Spain). Every single piece of clothing that I've bought there has lasted me a very long time. This shorts are also incredibly versatile because of their neutral color, you can pair them up with several other tops and look great. I'm thinking a classic white button down shirt, basic little white t-shirt, a soft button down silk shirt, or a gingham bustier like the one in this post. I once wore this shorts with the cutest sailor stripe top with short ruffled sleeves, also from Massimo Dutti. The great thing about this outfit (aside from the fact that the shorts cover my not so tight stomach) is that the neutral color of the shorts allow the bustier to stand out and be the center of attention, which is exactly what we want. 

I visualize myself wearing this outfit while on vacation in Rio de Janeiro. I'm always fantasizing about being in Rio de Janeiro and you'll here me say it over and over again. 

Right now I'm showing you only outfit details. Why? because beauty is in the details and because it encourages fantasy and creativity. Later on today I'll be uploading the complete look post. As always, you're  just gonna have to stick around fo mo!

BEAUTY IS IN THE DETAILS: HOW TO WEAR A BUSTIER AND A TULLE SKIRT

For quite a while now I've been infatuated with bustiers. I think that if worn correctly they can make you look beautiful and feminine and since now I've been experimenting with my girlie side I'm even more infatuated with them. 

Back in Guatemala I could never wear a bustier, mostly because its nearly impossible to find a bustier there, and then there's a whole lot of other cultural reasons that I just won't get into right now (boring). Anyhow, the fun good news is that now I live in Miami (yei! The sunshine city) where I can wear a bustier whenever I want to wherever I want. Which is exactly why the other day while I was hanging out with my friend Michelle at our happy place (Anthropologie of course) I couldn't resist myself and bought a gingham bustier and the most wonderful high waisted tulle skirt. 

Now, remember girls, the most important thing you need to keep in mind when wearing a bustier is to pair it with something high waisted. I mean if you have a flawless, flat, fatless, fit abdomen then forget this but if you're like me and the the rest of the women in the world, then try to keep this in mind. Otherwise don't go saying I didn't say so. Also if you're a petite girl you might want to try wearing a skirt that is not as full as this one. Very full skirts can make you look a little childish when you're petite, unless of course this is the look that you're aiming for. However, if you think you can pull it off and it makes you feel beautiful and happy, then by all means go for it, be fearless, I admire a woman with an adventurous spirit. 

I know that some of you have been asking for complete outfit looks (meaning me wearing them), which is why today I'm finally modeling for you (woohoo!). I try to keep you guys happy, you know that. However, you're still gonna have to stick around for the second post of the day because right now it's all about the little details.

FEMININE PRINTS THAT WONT MAKE YOU LOOK MATRONLY

Lately I've been talking a lot about my new found girlie side. A few posts ago I gave you 5 easy tips on how to include girlie elements to your wardrobe. One of them was to experiment with prints. The great news is that in order to look feminine or girlie you don't have to wear matronly floral prints (Laura Ashley style), In fact there are many fun and beautiful prints you can experiment with that will also help you achieve girlieness without looking like a casting member from Little House on the Prairie. Here's an outfit I put together yesterday that made me feel very feminine but also modern with a quirky touch. I paired it up with neon pink flats, a statement necklace and neon pink scarf in case it got chilly at night. Take a look.

OUTFIT POST: MIXING THE OLD WITH THE NEW

A couple of years ago I bought this Gap denim vest at a flea market that a friend of mine organized here in Guatemala to raise funds for a local non-profit organization. It's pretty amazing the things that you'll find at a flea market if you have patience and you know how to dig in well. 

Yesterday I was invited to a little friendly gathering to say good bye to one of our really good friends who is moving away for a few months. I love gatherings because they are a great opportunity to dress up. I decided to wear my "second hand" Gap denim vest with my new Anthropologie dress, JCrew sandals, and statement necklace also from Anthropologie that I bought a few years ago. A very summery outfit perfect for my newfound girlieness. YES! I admit it! I'm girlie!

SAILS UP!!! NAUTICAL STYLE TIME!!!

Hello everyone, I'm happy to announce that I'm finally home with my family and friends in Guatemala. I'm only here for a few days so I'm gonna try to enjoy it as much as I possibly can. I'm going everywhere and doing everything.

If you guys only knew what a mission it was this morning thanks to the HEAT PARADE!!! My flight was scheduled to leave at 12:35pm. I knew the Heat parade was taking place at 11am so I thought that if I left my house at 8am I would have no problem (mind you I live practically in front of the arena). Anywho... to make loooooong story short: I walked down to Biscayne Blvd to look for a cab, couldn't find one, I sweat like a pig, walked back to my building, called a cab company, waited two hours, no cab, walked to the parking lot where I had my car, noticed my car had zero gas, drove down to Flagler to look for a gas station, put gas, drove to the airport, left my car parked there, dragged my luggage to American Airlines, and made it JUST IN TIME! Just thinking about it makes me anxious all over again, so let's just forget about all that and thank God that I'm finally here with my people. 

Today I have a nautical inspired outfit to share with you guys. I don't know why but lately I've been experimenting with my girlie side, the one I had lost a while ago and finally got it back. If anything this dress is G-I-R-L-I-E and you know what? I love it! I'm not gonna be in denial of my girlieness anymore, I'm just gonna embrace it.

HOW TO WEAR A BUSTIER PART I

Rule #1 to looking great when wearing a bustier top is to pair it up with a high waisted skirt, or pants, or shorts as long as it's high waisted. Doing this helps you avoid too much midriff exposure, specially helpful if your abs are not THAT toned up. Here I put together a colorful, feminine, bustier summer look to try during the day. You know, sometimes I can get a little crazy in the colors and prints department. If you're not a prints and bright colors person you can always try something in solids, or neutrals or both. Perhaps mix one solid neutral with another solid bright or print. Creativity is the limit. Explore, be bold, be daring, have no fear!

IVY LOOK OF THE WEEK: SUMMER TOPS

It's official, summer time is here. Today for example feels hot, hot, hot!!! The worst part is that I have to go renew my drivers license, which by the way I just recently noticed that it had expired in December (oops). It's this time of year that makes you feel like going nude outside is your best option. Jeans are really a girls best ally at all times. I don't really support the "I only wear jeans all the time" but I do have to admit they are a life savior.
